Fort Bend County Libraries’ (FBCL) Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present a series of introductory online demonstrations in January to introduce people to various aspects of computer use and technology.
These how-to tutorials can be viewed on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – by clicking on the “Classes and Events” tab, selecting “Virtual Programs,” and finding the virtual “class” on the dates listed.
Some of the topics includes multiple sub-topics, and participants can choose to view the whole series or the individual parts of their choice.
“Intro to 3D Printing” – Monday, January 4 (pre-recorded video)
This 2-part instructional video will provide an overview of 3D printing. Learn about how the 3D printer works, the process for printing, and how to use Tinkercad to design 3D objects.
Discover how to use this desktop-publishing software to create invitation cards. Learn how to insert different images and text to create personalized invitations for any occasion.
“Computers 101” – Monday, January 11 (pre-recorded video)
This multi-part series of basic, introductory videos provides an overview of computers and how they can be used. Learn about the physical parts of a computer, the differences between a Microsoft PC and an Apple Mac computer, and the meanings of different computer terms. Get an overview of the software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint), and much more.

Learn the basics of using this word-processing software program to create letters, resumés, forms, and other types of documents. Different segments in this multi-part series will demonstrate various features, such as text effects, changing font style and size, adding images, footnotes and endnotes, page numbers, tables, mail merge, and more.

Keeping your vehicle well maintained can extend its life and help save money on costly repairs. Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) has an online resource that illustrates basic maintenance steps that drivers can manage themselves to keep their vehicle performing optimally.
FBCL Adult Services librarians at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present an online, introductory demonstration of the “Chilton DIY Online Auto-Repair Manuals Library” on Tuesday, January 12. This pre-recorded video demonstration – which will be available on the FBCL website on the scheduled date -- can be viewed at any time from the comfort and safety of home.
The Chilton DIY Library provides exclusive photographs, diagnostics, step-by-step repair procedures, wiring diagrams, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance schedules, recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for automobiles and light trucks in one easy-to-use website. Domestic and import vehicle information is updated monthly. A vehicle Selector lets you search thousands of combinations of year, make and model covering the most popular vehicles of the past 30 years, as well as coverage of specialty models.

In this episode, hear about Death Comes to Durham, written by Jeanne Dams. Registration is not required; a link to the video will be posted on FBCL’s online calendar on the designated date, and it can be viewed at any time.
