Family Story Time takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:00 am, in the Meeting Room of the library. Families with children of all ages will enjoy stories, songs, and action rhymes. Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy. Each week has a different theme. The schedule for February is as follows:
After-School Breaks – crafts, movies, stories, and more for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5 – take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm, in the Meeting Room. The schedule of activities is as follows:

11:00 am: Learn How To Research Your Family History At Library Program11:00 am: Learn How To Research Your Family History At Library Program – In this introductory class, beginning family-history researchers will learn how to start their research. Library staff will provide a basic introduction to many of the resources that are available to the beginning genealogical researcher. Items that will be introduced include print resources, materials that are available on microfilm, and basic online tools such as the Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest USA databases. Get tips on ways to search the databases, and learn how to fill out basic genealogical forms. Anyone interested in more local-history or genealogy resources is encouraged to join the Family-History Research FBCL Facebook group page. Managed by the Genealogy & Local History department at George Memorial Library in Richmond, the group page is an interactive, online forum for sharing genealogy tips and resources, as well as local-history stories. The free program is in-person and open to the public. 10:15 am: Musical Storytelling Performance For Children At Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library10:15 am: Musical Storytelling Performance For Children At Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library – One of Houston’s most sought-after event harpists, Cowan is principal harpist with the Symphony of Southeast Texas and is a founding member of both the Deciduous and the Lynx Trios. Current president of the Greater Houston Chapter of the American Harp Society, she is on the faculty for the Houston Summer Harp Festival and is an alumna of the Da Camera Youth Artist program. Made possible by a grant through Young Audiences of Houston, the performance is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but seating is limited to the first 50 guests. 12:00 pm: “Nifty Needlers”12:00 pm: “Nifty Needlers” – Find inspiration, get feedback, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of other crafters during these free events. Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available.
Needlework enthusiasts of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crocheting, knitting, or sewing are invited to attend to get other needlecrafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Those attending should bring their own yarn, strings, and needles to start or finish a project, while chatting, networking, and enjoying the company of fellow needlecrafters. The group meets on the 3rd Friday of every month. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library organizations that support each library. The activities are free and open to the public.
