Mar 29, 2021

Fort Bend County Libraries’ “Bridging Differences” online photography exhibit is on display on the FBCL website throughout the month of March.

Winning photographs were determined by a panel of four judges, who made their determinations based on relationship to contest theme, composition, focus, lighting, emotional impact, and creativity.

First place was awarded to Cap Van Nguyen for his photograph, “Circle of Love,” which was taken at a post office in Fort Bend County.

Second place was awarded to Don Golden for his photograph, “Pepper and Salt.” Taken on the northeast side of a coffee shop in Richmond, the photo features two men enjoying their cigars together while relaxing at a table on the sidewalk.

Third place was awarded to Kaitlyn R. Brown for her photograph, “The Common Threat,” which was taken at her home in Fort Bend County. It features a medical mask and two hands.

“We appreciate all the photographers who entered the contest and shared their perceptions of diversity in our county,” said Library Director Clara Russell. “We had many wonderful photos that were entered, and we are honored to be able to share them with the community.”

Between the Internet and social media, access to information has been faster and easier than ever, but is the information true, accurate, or factual?  Libraries specialize in “information literacy” – the ability to identify, find, evaluate, and use information effectively, empowering people from all walks of life to determine for themselves what is fact and what is fiction.

Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) offers online tutorials to give the general public the tools they need to sort through all the information they come across on a daily basis.

On Tuesday, April 13, FBCL librarians will present “Misinformation & Disinformation: What’s That?”. This online program will be a pre-recorded video that can be viewed at any time after the scheduled date, from the comfort and safety of home.

This presentation will include some surprising reasons why people are vulnerable to misinformation and disinformation. Learn about tools to help identify inaccurate information and what to do when misinformation is found.

The online program can be viewed on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us -- by clicking on the “Classes and Events” tab and selecting “Virtual Programs,” and then finding the program on the date listed.
