Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Those attending should bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. Crafters are invited to come and go as time permits. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library organizations that support each library. The activities are free and open to the public. Registration is required for some of the programs. In this new bi-monthly series, teens will talk about books that have been translated to the silver screen. The first book/movie to be discussed is Moxie, based on the book of the same title written by Jennifer Mathieu. The movie adaptation was released in 2021. Teens who have read the book and/or seen the movie are encouraged to join in a lively discussion. The book is available in print and digitally as an ebook on OverDrive; additional print copies of the book are available at the check-out desk. The activities are free and open to the public. The event marks the second time this impressive fleet of visiting tall ships will anchor at the island’s historic waterfront. The 2023 series also includes stops in St. Petersburg and Pensacola, Florida. The event, produced in cooperation with Galveston Historical Foundation, will include ship tours, sail-away excursions, music, food, and other special events in a family-friendly environment at Galveston’s Pier 21 and the surrounding area. The festival will feature five visiting ships along with Galveston’s own 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA, the Official Tall Ship of Texas, with an exciting Parade of Sail in the Gulf along Seawall Boulevard on the afternoon of Thursday, April 13. While in port, the ships will be open to the public for viewing, and many will feature dockside exhibits and lively interactions with crew. Families with children of all ages will be inspired and motivated with ways to welcome environmental-sustainability practices into their daily lives. Get a glimpse of electric vehicles from Tesla and Texan Hyundai that will be on display in the south parking lot, while children enjoy free face painting nearby. Tables will be set up in the lobby with representatives from Fort Bend Beekeepers Association, Fort Bend County Environmental Health, Fort Bend County Health & Human Services, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful, and the FBCL Living Sustainably Club.
