10:15 am: June Schedule of Children's Activities at Mission Bend Branch Library10:15 am: June Schedule of Children's Activities at Mission Bend Branch Library – Fort Bend County Libraries’ Mission Bend Branch Library, located at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road, presents a variety of free children’s programs every month. Summer programs will begin during the week of June 5. Families with children of all ages are invited to join in the fun and earn rewards through FBCL’s Summer Reading Challenge! Craft packets will be given out at the end of each program, so that children may take them home to enjoy. Children of all ages are invited to bring their fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, or any other father figure in their life to a special “Donuts with Dad” program on Saturday, June 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Enjoy donuts and a classic comedy movie featuring dads! Preschool Story Time – for children 3 to 6 years of age -- takes place on Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 11:00 am. This activity presents stories, movies, and age-appropriate activities. The themes are the same as those for Toddler Time each week. Enjoy donuts and a classic comedy movie featuring dads! Mother Goose Time -- for pre-walking infants from age 1 month to 12 months -- takes place on Thursdays, from 10:15 to 11:00 am. This activity provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. This activity will NOT take place on June 1. These programs are free and open to the public.
During this monthly workshop, take advantage of the library’s space, quiet atmosphere, seating, power outlets, and snacks to kick-start your own literary masterpiece! Participants will have an opportunity to share their manuscripts with others and get constructive feedback.
The “Writers’ Corner” on FBCL’s website includes three unique tools – PressBooks Public, the Indie Author Project, and the BiblioBoard Library – that enable writers, as well as readers, to create, publish, and discover digital content made by and for the local community. Library staff will demonstrate the different facets of this online resource and show how it can help writers. Registration required.
From beginning blogger to published novelist, writers of all genres and experience levels are welcome to write, share, learn, support, network, and critique each other’s work at this monthly meeting. Writing prompts, brainteasers, and brief exercises will be available to ignite the imaginations of any and all wordsmiths who wish to hone their craft. The topic for July is “Flow.” This program is recommended for adults and teens aged 14 and up.
In this introductory workshop, learn how to use words to sketch a story, then fill in colorful details to create a literary masterpiece from one’s imagination. Registration required. 2:00 pm: Learn About Bird Watching in Texas at Mission Bend Branch Library Program2:00 pm: Learn About Bird Watching in Texas at Mission Bend Branch Library Program – With the diverse ecological systems that are represented in Texas, the state has become known for the unparalleled bird-watching opportunities that can be found in the different areas of the state. Because birding is easy for all ages to enjoy, it is a popular family activity that can lead to a lifelong hobby. Fort Bend County Libraries will present an introductory program about bird-watching in Texas, “Backyard Birds: Creating a Healthy Habitat,” on Saturday, July 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the Mission Bend Branch Library, 8421 Addicks Clodine Road in northeast Fort Bend County. In this program, presented by Shannon Westveer from the Coastal Prairie Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists, learn about the wide variety of birds that can be found in the Upper Texas Gulf Coast, and how to identify and classify the birds. Discover ways to attract, protect, and conserve birds as they coexist in more human-dominated landscapes. The program is free and open to the public.
