Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy, will present introductory technolody classes this month on the use of computers and 3-D printing. The computer classes will take place in the Computer Lab of the library.
“Ask Me Anything About Computers” will take place on Tuesday, April 4, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Get answers to any computer-related questions, such as “How do I use two monitors?” or “How do I save a Word file as a PDF?”
“Introduction to 3-D Printing” will take place on Tuesday, April 18, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. Library staff will introduce the 3D printer and explain how library patrons can print their own designs. Those attending the session will also learn about free websites that can be used to find 3D files or to create their own 3D designs. Attendees are encouraged to create an account with Tinkercad at https://www.tinkercad.com prior to the class.

The “ESLConversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.
The ESL Conversation Circles will take place at multiple locations in the Fort Bend County library system in April. Reservations are NOT required. The schedule is as follows:

“Book-Art: Easter Egg” Wednesday, April 5, 2:00-3:00 pm, Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd, Katy.
Learn how to transform an old book into a unique piece of art! Discover ways to form simple shapes and images, such as an Easter egg, by folding pages of a book. No cutting, gluing, or special equipment is needed for this simple craft project. The project is a fun way to re-use old books and give them a new purpose. The resulting piece can be put on display or given as a gift. Registration required.

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library and Mission Bend Branch Library offer programs specifically designed for high school-aged teens entering grades 9 through 12. The programs provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.
The Cinco Ranch Branch Library will have a “College Prep” workshop on Tuesday, April 18, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, in the Conference Classroom.
Leticia Hardy, from the Texas AgriLife Extension Office, will talk about how to “dress to impress” for college-admission interviews and for scholarship interviews. Registration required.
Teens can earn volunteer-service hours by participating in FBCL’s Young Adult Advisory Councils, where they can express ideas, help organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to teens at the library.The April schedule of Young Adult Advisory Council meetings is as follows:

In this new bi-monthly series, teens will talk about books that have been translated to the silver screen. The first book/movie to be discussed is Moxie, based on the book of the same title written by Jennifer Mathieu. The movie adaptation was released in 2021. Teens who have read the book and/or seen the movie are encouraged to join in a lively discussion. The book is available in print and digitally as an ebook on OverDrive; additional print copies of the book are available at the check-out desk.

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will present “Photography 102: Painting with Light” on Saturday, April 15, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Multipurpose Room of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Build on basic photography skills and take lighting a step further with this simple technique. Learn how to use long exposures and a flashlight to place lighting where it is wanted, creating dramatic still-life photos and surreal portraits.
This class will feature a live demonstration by a professional photographer. Participants are invited to bring their own DSLR camera if they would like to practice the technique during the program.

Leticia Hardy, from the Texas AgriLife Extension Office, will talk about how to “dress to impress” for college-admission interviews and for scholarship interviews. Registration required.

Fort Bend County Libraries will present a variety of craft-themed programs for adults in April to introduce people to new hobbies and activities, and to give current crafters inspiration and new ideas.
Find encouragement, get feedback, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of other crafters during these free events. Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available.
Craft Club– Tuesdays, April 11 and 25, 2:00-4:00 pm, Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd, Katy.
Craft enthusiasts of all experience levels who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Fort Bend County Libraries invites families with children of all ages to a fun, interactive program, “The Wonderful World of Bubbles,” on Saturday, April 29, from 10:15 to 11:15 am, in the Meeting Room at the Mission Bend Branch Library, located at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road, in northeast Fort Bend County.
Learn about simple math and science and the art of bubbles when Shelly McBubbles creates mind-blowing bubbles, including giant bubbles, bubble clouds, bubble chains, and a cube bubble. Her grand finale is not to be missed!

The miniature golf course is open to the public. Clubs and balls are available in the front lobby. Players must check in with staff at the front desk.
