ADULT CRAFT ACTIVITIES AT CINCO RANCH BRANCH LIBRARY

Feb 4, 2020

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library will host a variety of craft activities in February for adults and youth aged 14 and above. People who enjoy crafting will have an opportunity to learn new crafts, network with other crafters, and discover many of the free resources that the libraries have for crafting enthusiasts.

“Folded-Book Hearts” -- Tuesday, February 4, 5:30-7:30 pm, Multi-purpose Room.

Library staff will demonstrate how to take an old book and make words and images by folding the pages. No cutting, gluing, or special equipment is needed for this simple craft project. The project is a fun way to re-use old books and give them a new purpose. The resulting piece of art can be a great gift for someone who loves to read. Materials for this activity are made possible by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library. Registration required.

“DIY Resources Database for Hobbies & Crafts” – Monday, February 10, 12:15-1:30 pm, Computer Lab.

Library staff will demonstrate the Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center (HCRC) database, a valuable online research tool that offers detailed “how-to” instructions and creative ideas to meet the needs of virtually every hobby enthusiast. Crafters, hobbyists, and collectors will find resources on a wide assortment of leisure activities, from candle-making and cake-decorating to scrapbooking and sculpting. Full-text articles are provided from leading hobby and craft magazines, including Bead & ButtonCreative KnittingFineScale ModelerQuilter’s World, and many more. Information is available for collectors with interests in antiques, coins, stamps, trading cards, sports memorabilia, and much more. The HCRC resource also includes information on many activities, such as rock-climbing, mountain-biking, photography, camping, and many others. The resource, which can be accessed from home on a desktop computer or mobile device with a Fort Bend County library card, also includes access to more than 1,000 electronic full-text hobby-and-craft resources and instructional videos. Registration required.

“Craft Club @ Cinco Ranch” – Tuesdays, February 11 and 25, 10:00 am-12:00 noon.

People of all experience levels – from beginners to advanced – who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend this monthly come-and-go event to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Those attending should bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month.

Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available at these events.

The programs are free and open to the public. For more information, or to register for a class, see the Fort Bend County Libraries website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Events,” select “Cinco Ranch Branch Library,” and find the program.
