Libraries Present Online Genealogy Program On Finding Land Deeds

Jul 19, 2021

Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will present an online genealogy class, “Family History Research: Finding Property-Deed Records,” on Monday, July 19. This video will be pre-recorded so that it can be viewed from the comfort of home at any time after the scheduled date.

In this video genealogy session, learn how and where to research property-deed records and discover the types of information that can be gleaned from them.

A record of the transfer or sale of property between people, deed records can help fill in the gaps in one’s family history by indicating family relationships, giving specific information on where and when one’s ancestors lived in a location, and providing insight into their economic status. Because deeds dealt with property and money, they often go further back and contain more information than many other sources. A deed can lead to other sources of information and provide the names of friends as well as family members.

This online, pre-recorded video can be viewed on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us -- by clicking on the “Classes and Events” tab and selecting “Virtual Programs,” and then finding the programs on the date listed.

Anyone interested in more local-history or genealogy resources is encouraged to join the Family-History Research FBCL Facebook group page. Managed by the Genealogy & Local History department at George Memorial Library in Richmond, the group page is an interactive, online forum for sharing genealogy tips and resources, as well as local-history stories.
