Libraries Present Online Demonstrations For Craft & Hobby Enthusiasts

Fort Bend County Libraries will present a series of online, craft- and hobby-themed video demonstrations to introduce people to new hobbies and activities, and to give current crafters inspiration and new ideas.

Fort Bend County Libraries will offer virtual craft and hobby activities online this summer, so that they can be viewed from the comfort of home.

These demonstration videos can be viewed by selecting “Virtual Programs” on the “Classes and Events” tab on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – and finding the programs on the dates listed. The June schedule is as follows:

Craft Corner” – Thursday, June 3, 4:30 pm (live-streamed)

In this live-streamed Webex event, people of all experience levels – from beginners to advanced – who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Registration is required; a link to the Webex session will be emailed to all who register.

Photography Basics: What Makes This Photograph Great” – Monday, June 14 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to critique amazing photographs by master photographers to gain a better understanding of the elements that make a photo great. This episode will focus on “The Joshua Tree,” a photograph by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn. A link to the video will be posted on FBCL’s online calendar on the designated date, and it can be viewed at any time.

DIY Tiered Stand”– Tuesday, June 15 (pre-recorded video)

DIY Tiered Stand

Create a tiered stand that can be used as an organizer in the kitchen or bathroom, as a plant stand, or for party trays. The stand can be customized to match any style or décor. Materials needed include: clothespins, wood stain, stove-burner covers, candlestick (or other options for the base), permanent craft glue, and ribbon/twine. Goat’s Milk Soap” – Thursday, June 24 (pre-recorded video)

Library staff will demonstrate how to make melt-and-pour soap with goat’s milk. In this step-by-step tutorial, learn how to melt, pour, and customize the soap. A link to the video will be posted on FBCL’s online calendar on the designated date, and it can be viewed at any time.

Geode Coaster Craft” – Wednesday, June 30 (pre-recorded video)

Library staff will demonstrate a coaster for a coffee table, using resin, alcohol coloring, and geode molds. A link to the video will be posted on FBCL’s online calendar on the designated date, and it can be viewed at any time.

The sessions are free and open to the public. Registration is required for the live-streamed activities ONLY; a link to the Webex session will be emailed to participants who register.
