Libraries Present Introductory Technology How-To Videos Online

Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) will present a series of introductory online demonstrations in July to introduce people to various aspects of computer use and technology.

These how-to tutorials can be viewed on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – by clicking on the “Classes and Events” tab, selecting “Virtual Programs,” and finding the virtual “class” on the dates listed.

Some of the topics includes multiple sub-topics, and participants can choose to view the whole series or the individual parts of their choice. The schedule for July is as follows:

 MS Excel Q&A” – Thursday, July 8, 2:00 pm (live-streamed via Webex)

In this live-streamed videoconference, library staff will answer questions about this spreadsheet software program. Some common questions are often about spreadsheets, tables, formulas, or formatting. Registration is required; those who register will be emailed a link to the Webex session.

 Intro to 3D Printing” – Monday, July 12 (pre-recorded video)

This 2-part instructional video will provide an overview of 3D printing. Learn about how the 3D printer works, the process for printing, and how to use Tinkercad to design 3D objects.

 Social Media: TikTok Basics” – Tuesday, July 13 (pre-recorded video)

Learn how to create an account on TikTok, a social-media app that lets users record and share short videos. Get tips on how to record TikTok videos and how to share them with friends and followers.

 Introduction to Credo Reference & Gale eBooks Virtual Reference Library” – Thursday, July 15 (pre-recorded video)

In this featured-database episode, learn about two helpful, online research resources -- "Credo Reference” and “Gale eBooks Virtual Reference Library." "Credo Reference" promotes knowledge building, problem-solving and critical thinking to give people the information skills necessary for success throughout their academic, professional and personal lives. Use this simple tool to confidently search 3,629,050 full-text articles in 1,222 titles from 122 publishers.

"Gale eBooks Virtual Reference Library" is a database of authoritative nonfiction eBooks. It offers encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research that are all full-text and always available. Gale eBooks can be accessed anytime from the library's eLibrary page -- look under "Books, eLibrary & More."

The sessions are free and open to the public. To access these online tutorials, go to the Fort Bend County Libraries website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Classes & Events,” select “Virtual Programs,” and find the program on the date indicated.
