Libraries Present Virtual Demonstrations For Craft & Hobby Enthusiasts  

Fort Bend County Libraries will present a series of virtual, craft- and hobby-themed video demonstrations to introduce people to new hobbies and activities, and to give current crafters inspiration and new ideas.

These demonstration videos can be viewed by selecting “Virtual Programs” on the “Classes and Events” tab on the Fort Bend County Libraries website – www.fortbend.lib.tx.us – and finding the programs on the dates listed.

  • Let’s Learn Origami” – Wednesday, August 5 (pre-recorded video)

Discover how these delicate art forms are made by twisting and folding paper into unique shapes. Learn how to make whimsical shapes such as a dragon.

  • Craft Squad: Window Suncatchers” – Friday, August 7 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to create beautiful suncatchers with coloring sheets. This activity takes the relaxing art of adult coloring a step further!

  • Hair-Braiding Tutorial” – Monday, August 10 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to weave a simple braid and a fishtail braid.

  • Fantasy Sun Prints” – Wednesday, August 12 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, library staff will demonstrate how to make sun-activated natural dyes using everyday household items. Watch step-by-step instructions for making and using the dye to make fun prints on paper.

  • Barn Quilt Tape-istry” – Wednesday, August 12 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to use paint and tape to make layered patterns on canvas for a beautiful work of art.

  • Photography Basics: Professional-Looking Portraits on a Budget” – Monday, August 17 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, get tips on how to achieve professional-looking portraits using a digital camera or smartphone and items commonly found around the home.

  • Guitar Basics: Reading Chords” – Tuesday, August 18 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, build on the basics of playing the guitar. Learn how to read open-position guitar-chord diagrams. This tutorial will also cover finger placement on the fretboard to form chords that are more complex.

  • Jazz Up Your Trash(can)” – Tuesday, August 18 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, get ideas for making an ordinary trashcan into a work of art.

  • Ice Cream Making” – Tuesday, August 18 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to make homemade ice cream. Library staff will demonstrate two methods – one with an ice cream mixer and one without.

  • DIY Gift Bags” – Thursday, August 20 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to use everyday materials to make and decorate a custom gift bag of any size.

  • Craft Squad: Beaded Suncatchers” – Friday, August 21 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, learn how to create all-weather suncatchers to decorate one’s window or yard, using just beads and wire.

  • Glitter Vases” – Tuesday, August 25 (pre-recorded video)

In this craft video tutorial, learn how to take inexpensive craft materials and simple items that are readily available to create a beautiful object to accent one’s home décor.

  • DIY Cardboard Caddy” – Wednesday, August 26 (pre-recorded video)

In this video tutorial, viewers will discover how to make a convenient storage caddy. This simple no-sew activity requires a cardboard box, fabric, and rope.

  • Cross-Stitch Embroidery for Beginners” – Thursday, August 27 (pre-recorded video)

Embroidery is one of the arts of embellishing fabric or linens with a needle and thread. Designs and stitches can be simple or very intricate, and they can be used to decorate bed linens, kitchen towels, caps, and other articles of clothing. In this video tutorial, library staff will provide instruction on the art of cross-stitch embroidery. Learn about different stitches and materials that can be used.
