All University of Houston-Victoria classes will be taught online starting March 25 through the end of the spring semester because of smoke and fire damage in UHV University West that has made the building unusable.
Although the Thursday night fire was eventually contained, there was smoke damage throughout the building along with some water damage.
“The majority of UHV’s face-to-face classes were taught inside University West so we had to switch to online delivery of all classes,” UHV President Bob Glenn said.
UHV’s spring break for students started Monday, so no classes are scheduled this week. In addition, UHV will extend its spring break through March 24 and then switch all classes to online delivery the following day.
There is not an estimate yet about how long it will be before University West can reopen. As a result of the fire, 85 staff members temporarily are working out of computer labs and a classroom inside the UHV University Center.
