BIG Day of BIG Giving Comes Full Circle for First Cancer Patient

Hat Creek Burger Company and UPS team up to match $16k in donations

HOUSTON, TX (October 22, 2019) –B.I.G. Love Cancer Care will host its annual Big Day of Big Giving on November 12, 2019, by celebrating the first child served by B.I.G. Love Cancer Care, Justin Runkle of Huffman, Texas.   During this 24-hour period, all donations will be matched by UPS and Hat Creek Burger Company up to $16,000!  Both Hat Creek Burger Company and UPS have committed $8,000 each in matching funds to support B.I.G. Love Cancer Care programs at six children’s hospitals across Texas.

In 2007, six-year-old Justin was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.  After seven months of inpatient treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital and many months of follow-up appointments, Justin was finally in remission.  Justin’s father, Billy, was an employee at UPS and both the family and Roderick Brown with UPS were introduced to B.I.G. Love and the care they provide.  Last month, Justin’s B.I.G. Love story came full circle when he was awarded a scholarship from Roderick Brown, Community Relations Director for UPS to attend Lee College in Baytown.

“I first met B.I.G. Love when I was six years old,” said Justin. “When they walked into the door of my hospital room at Texas Children’s Hospital and brought me a holiday gift basket. During my treatment for leukemia, B.I.G. Love was there for me and my family and here I am today, 12 years in REMISSION and I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BIG LOVE!”
