Olson Works to Include USA in World Expo

Lays Ground Work for a Potential Future World Expo in Houston

Washington, DC — Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today joined with a bipartisan group of members to pass legislation that paves the way to invite the international World Expo to Houston in 2027. The bill, H.R. 4842, the Expositions Provide Opportunities Act, ensures a United States presence at the World Expo in Dubai in 2020 to showcase America — in particular Houston — as a potential future venue for this global event. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) introduced the bill and fellow Texas Reps. Lizzie Fletcher (D) and Michael McCaul (R) joined Olson as co-sponsors.

Olson stated: “Hot on the heels of the ‘Howdy Modi’ blowout last month and the Offshore Technology Conference held in Houston every year, our region continues to demonstrate its prominence as a magnet for international celebrations with global impact. This action has the potential to put Houston in play as a future host of the World Expo and show people of all nations the many reasons why this great Texas city has emerged as a top destination for worldwide events.”

The World Expo is a platform where nations and companies come together to address global challenges. More than 120 countries have committed to take part in the Expo which runs from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021.
