Biggest in-season NFL trades in the last 10 years

NFL trading is always an exciting period but in-season trads are usually a different story. This is changing and in the last 10 years, there has been a number of key transfers that have taken place within the organisation. Here we cover the most notable deals to date.

Jimmy Garoppolo

QB – 2017

New England Patriots – San Francisco 49ers

Where better to start than with Jimmy Garoppolo’s transfer to the 49ers from the Patriots in 2017. This came as a surprise at the time but it was due to the fact that he could not rival Tom Brady at the Patriots. The 49ers then got a premium passer, which meant they did not pursue Kirk Cousins, who then went on to sign for the Minnesota Vikings. Garoppolo made a fantastic introduction, which led to a near $50 million contract extension at the 49ers. He suffered am AC tear that ended his 2018 season but he has returned in flying form. This has seen him and the 49ers well supported for success in this 2019 season with many looking at the latest Sporty trader predictions ahead of the most important fixtures. These cover the offers available for punters looking to put money down on a 49er victory.

Jay Ajayi

RB – 2017

Miami Dolphins – Philadelphia Eagles

Another interesting in-season transfer was that of Jay Ajayi. At the time the 24 year old was being pushed out of the Miami Dolphins, with a number of sides looking to bring him on board. He ultimately joined the Philadelphia Eagles and made an instant impact. Ajayi averaged 5.8 yards per carry over his seven regular-season games, whilst rushing for 57 yards in their Super Bowl final victory. However, he was another player to suffer a torn ACL, which put him on the side lines for a lengthy period of time.

Sam Bradford

QB – 2016

Philadelphia Eagles – Minnesota Vikings

Another transfer that involved the Eagles as they transferred Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings. The latter had just lost starter Teddy Bridgewater to a knee injury but were able to acquire Sam Bradford from the Eagles. This was due to the fact that they knew they would likely need him for the 2017 season. The Vikings ended up 7-8 when he started but Bradford made a major impact, setting an NFL record by completing 71.6% of his passes.

Percy Harvin

WR – 2014

Seattle Seahawks – New York Jets

The final transfer to make the list is Percy Harvin who joined the Jets following being dumped by the Seattle Seahawks. This was a surprise at the time, as they had given up a first round pick in order to acquire him back in 2013. The Seahawks were now just looking to get him off the books following his rotten time at the club. Harvin made eight starts for the Jets, totalling 460 yards, before then being released in March of 2015.
