Cornyn: Brazoria County, Houston Area to Receive $14.4M in Federal Grants for Hurricane Harvey Recovery

HOUSTON – Brazoria County as well as the Houston Ballet Foundation will receive a number of federal grants totaling $14,409,094.55 to fund debris removal and damage repair following the devastation that occurred during Hurricane Harvey, U.S. Senator John Cornyn announced today. The funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the Robert T. Stafford Act, which grants authority for the federal government to assist in local disaster aid efforts.

“After the devastation brought on by Hurricane Harvey more than two years ago, Texans are still working hard to get back on their feet” said Sen. Cornyn. “I’m glad the Trump Administration continues to focus on the wellbeing of Texans affected by the storm, and I look forward to seeing these funds put to good use along the Texas coast.”

Elevation of Flood Damaged Structures – Batch 1

This grant will fund the elevation of 40 flood-prone residential structures (Batch 1), to two feet above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) of the adopted Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) or to the BFE of the preliminary FIRM, whichever is higher.  All elevations will be in compliance with local building ordinances and grant compliance. County will work with each homeowner to select a qualified, experienced elevation contractor that will complete the work in compliance with the structure-specific plans and specifications, applicable codes and standards and minimum NFIP requirements.  This award is pursuant to the Robert T. This award provides $1,874,764.03 in federal funding to the Houston Ballet Center to restore damages sustained as a result of FEMA-DR-4332-TX (Hurricane Harvey). This funding is being provided by FEMA under the authority of Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
