Katy resident Barbara Janovsky has witnessed firsthand the cruelty that cancer inflicts on someone. Her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2016.
As the chemotherapy treatments were underway, Barbara saw the toll it took on her mother. The disease had sapped her mother of her strength, leaving her barely able to take care of herself, let alone her own home. It was heartbreaking to see the strong woman who raised Barbara struggling to perform simple day-to-day tasks while still battling the disease that ravaged her body.
Barbara knew there were other women out there suffering under similar circumstances. Women who, despite fighting for their lives, still had mundane tasks to do to keep their home afloat.
“When you’re battling cancer, there are so many things out of your control that you worry about,” said Janovsky. “I saw how overwhelmed my mother was with trying to maintain a normal home while undergoing treatment. If that could be taken care of by someone else, it would give her so much more time to herself and family.”
There had to be a solution to eliminate the physical activity and stress of cleaning up around the home while cancer patients underwent treatment. So, she found an opportunity to open a franchise location with Two Maids & A Mop, a national residential cleaning company. While it presented an opportunity to finally have her entrepreneurial dreams come true, it was the fact that Two Maids & A Mop partners with Cleaning For a Reason, a nonprofit that provides free home cleanings to women undergoing cancer treatment, that solidified her choice for the next step in her entrepreneurial life. Barbara had found just what she was looking for.
Since opening her business in November 2017, Barbara has served both paying customers and patients throughout Katy and West Houston. With Breast Cancer Awareness Month upon us, Barbara wants those battling cancer to focus on continuing their fight and not doing household chores.
