District play begins this week for Katy-area high school football teams, and with it, a chance to begin anew, albeit in midseason.
For the Morton Ranch Mavericks, who play the Taylor Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium, district play offers a chance to build momentum. Morton Ranch is 3-1 and coming off a 41-6 win over the Sam Houston Tigers last week.
For Taylor, 2-2, the game offers a chance to reestablish momentum. The Mustangs began their season with a tough 69-7 loss to Atascocita. They rebounded in impressive fashion, defeating Cy Springs and Deer Park. Last week the Mustangs took a step back, losing a tough game, 49-6, to Dickinson.
The game is Morton Ranch’s homecoming game.
All KISD schools but Katy, which has an open date, will be in action this week. Here’s a preview of the other games.
Cinco Ranch Cougars vs. Mayde Creek Rams
The Cougars play the Rams at 6 p.m. Saturday at Legacy Stadium.
Cinco Ranch is 0-4 and coming off a 51-3 loss to Cedar Park. Mayde Creek is 4-0 and coming off a 34-0 win over Alvin.
Tompkins Falcons vs. Seven Lakes Spartans
The Falcons play the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rhodes Stadium.
Tompkins is 4-0 and coming off a 70-21 win over Clear Creek. Seven Lakes is 3-1 and coming off a 29-27 win over Houston Heights. The game is Seven Lakes’s homecoming game.
Cleveland Indians vs. Paetow Panthers
The Indians play the Panthers at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rhodes Stadium.
Cleveland is 0-3 and coming off a bye week. Its last game was a 56-7 loss to Diboll. Paetow is 3-0 and coming off a bye week. Its last game was a 48-7 win over Fort Bend Clements. The game is Paetow’s senior parent night.
