District play begins this week for Katy-area high school football teams, and with it, a chance to begin anew, albeit in midseason.

For the Morton Ranch Mavericks, who play the Taylor Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium, district play offers a chance to build momentum. Morton Ranch is 3-1 and coming off a 41-6 win over the Sam Houston Tigers last week.

For Taylor, 2-2, the game offers a chance to reestablish momentum. The Mustangs began their season with a tough 69-7 loss to Atascocita. They rebounded in impressive fashion, defeating Cy Springs and Deer Park. Last week the Mustangs took a step back, losing a tough game, 49-6, to Dickinson.

The game is Morton Ranch’s homecoming game.
