Learn Embroidery Basics At Library Program

Learn the basics of embroidery at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Cinco Ranch Branch Library in a “Stitch It! Embroidery Workshop” on Thursdays, October 10 and 24, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, in the Conference Classroom of the library, located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.

This 2-part workshop will include a hands-on demonstration covering the basics of the needlework art of embroidery.

Embroidery is one of the arts of embellishing fabric or linens with a needle and thread. Designs and stitches can be simple or very intricate, and they can be used to decorate bed linens, kitchen towels, caps, and other articles of clothing. Embroidery can also be used to create handcrafted works of art.

In Part 1, learn different stitches and hear about the different materials that can be used. Those attending will begin an embroidery project.

In Part 2 of the workshop, return with the project to learn how to finish it.

This program is suitable for adults and teens aged 14 and above. Materials for the workshop are made possible by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library.

Samples of the library’s instructional books, crafting magazines, and websites on the various sewing arts will be available.

The class is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Events,” select “Cinco Ranch Branch,” and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library at 281-395-1311, or by visiting the library.
