Mayde Creek-Alvin Game Leads This Week’s KISD Football Matchups

By George Slaughter

Mayde Creek coach Mike Rabe.

The Mayde Creek Rams, at 3-0, have tied their number of wins in both of the last two seasons. This week they hope to reach new heights when they play the Alvin Yellowjackets. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Freedom Field in Alvin.

In 2018, the Rams finished 3-7, and in 2017, they finished 3-6. Mayde Creek’s last .500 season was in 2008, when it finished 5-5. Its last winning season was in 2007, when it finished 6-5.

“This team has done a good job of growing together as a family,” Rams coach Mike Rabe said. “They have a great deal of commitment to the program and have become very consistent at practice. We have a bunch of players that take every opportunity to get better at their position so they can execute their assignment on game night for their team.”

Alvin comes in at 0-3, and lost to Tompkins 63-0 last week. But Alvin’s record isn’t what the Rams are focusing on.

“The focus of this team is about bettering themselves every day,” Rabe said. “They understand that all they can control is their attitude, effort and execution at each practice and in every game. Having that type of focus has helped our team get better each day, regardless of the opponent.”

All KISD schools but Paetow, which has an open date, will be in action this week. Here’s a preview of the other games.
