Call For Entries: Houston Livestock Show And Rodeo™ 2020 Quilt Contest

Entries are now open for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 2020 Quilt Contest.

CONTEST RULES:

Quilters who reside in the designated 68 Area Go Texan counties and Houston-Area counties are encouraged to enter the Rodeo’s 2020 Quilt Contest. A selection of quilts will be chosen by a jury, and later showcased in NRG Center during the 2020 Rodeo, March 3 – March 22.

DIVISIONS:

There are two divisions in the contest, Machine Quilting and Hand Quilting, each with five categories: Appliqué, Piecework, Pictorial, Wall Hanging and Mixed Technique.

JUDGING:

Quilts will be judged in five areas: Overall Appearance, Workmanship, Suitability / Color, Originality and Design. The quilts will be juried based on photographs submitted with the online entry; selected quilts will be submitted for judging in a private session.

AWARDS:

Ribbons will be awarded in multiple categories, including Overall Best of Show, Best of Division, Best of Go Texan Award and Judges Choice, among others.

CONTEST TIMELINE:

  • September 2019: Call for online entry opens
  • Sunday, Dec. 1: Online entry deadline
  • Friday, Dec. 6 – Tuesday, Dec. 10: Jury selects quilts chosen for display during 2020 Rodeo
  • Thursday, Dec. 12 – Friday, Dec. 13: Selected quilters notified and given quilt shipping instructions
  • Friday, Jan. 17: Accepted quilts must be received at Rodeo offices
  • Saturday, Jan. 18: Quilt judging
  • Tuesday, March 3 – Sunday, March 22, 2020: Quilts officially unveiled on opening day and displayed during the run of the Rodeo
