Football Kicks Off Thursday for Katy ISD Schools

The Katy vs. North Shore game, set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Galena Park ISD Stadium, is understandably getting its share of attention this week. Both schools are perennial powerhouses and have become rivals in recent seasons.

The game itself will be broadcast on ESPNU and television watch parties have been set up for those fans unable to make the drive to Galena Park.

But this matchup isn’t the only one that will excite Katy-area high school football fans. Here’s an overview of the other games.

Atascocita Eagles vs. Taylor Mustangs

The Eagles play the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium. Both the Eagles, led by coach Craig Stump, and the Mustangs, led by coach Chad Simmons, made the playoffs last year. Atascocita finished with a 11-2 record, while Taylor finished 6-6.

Mayde Creek Rams vs. Conroe Tigers

The Rams play the Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday at Morehead Stadium in Conroe. The Rams, led by coach Mike Rabe, finished at 3-7 last season. The Tigers, led by coach Cedric Hardeman, also finished at 3-7 last season.

Cy Lakes Spartans vs. Morton Ranch Mavericks

The Spartans play the Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rhodes Stadium. The Spartans, led by coach Ronald Patton, finished at 5-5 last season. The Mavericks, led by coach Ron Counter, also finished at 5-5.

Paetow Panthers vs. Stafford Spartans

The Panthers play the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Stafford Municipal School District Stadium. The Panthers, led by coach B.J. Gotte, finished at 3-7 last season. The Spartans, led by coach Ken Savanah, finished at 4-6.

Cy Ranch Mustangs vs. Cinco Ranch Cougars

The Mustangs play the Cougars at 6 p.m. Saturday at Legacy Stadium. The Mustangs finished at 11-1 last season. The Cougars finished at 3-7 last season. The game marks the debut of new coaches for both teams. At Cy Ranch, Sean McAuliffe takes over for Gene Johnson, who took over at Waller. At Cinco Ranch, Chris Dudley takes over for Don Clayton, who retired.

Tompkins Falcons vs. Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs

The Falcons play the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Saturday at Mercer Stadium. The Falcons, led by coach Todd McVey, finished at 10-3 last season and made the playoffs. The Bulldogs finished at 3-7 last season. The game marks the debut of Mike Arogbonlo as Bulldogs coach. He takes over for Dan Schrieber, who retired.

Spring Branch Memorial Mustangs vs. Seven Lakes Spartans

The Mustangs play the Spartans at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rhodes Stadium. The Mustangs, led by coach Gary Koch, finished 4-6 last season. The Spartans, led by coach Jimmy Hamon, finished 6-5 last season and made the playoffs.
