Local Fencing Club Receives National ‘Club of Excellence’ Award

In August, local fencing club Alliance Fencing Academy received the prestigious “Club of Excellence Award” from the United States Fencing Association (USFA) for Membership Programming.  The annual award honors four clubs from across the US that “have shown incredible dedication to their members and the sport of fencing.”

In July, the club was also recognized by the USFA with the Inaugural President’s Award for International Success, a new honor to recognize “clubs that have consistently produced top fencers who have made the success of Team USA possible.”

Alliance Fencing Academy has a proven record of producing outstanding results as their members compete regionally, nationally and internationally.  At the recent 2019 US Summer National Championship – the largest fencing tournament in the world – Alliance fencers earned an astounding 10 medals, tying the record for most medals at the event for epee clubs in the U.S.  Over 5,400 competitors from 48 states and 20 nations competed at Summer Nationals during the 10-day event.   This year’s Championship was held June 28-July 7 in Columbus, Ohio.

Fifteen years ago, Alliance Fencing Academy had less than 10 members. Now the club has grown to more than 300 members with two locations in Houston and The Woodlands.   The Club is home to Olympians and gold medalists at the national, NCAA and World Championship level.  Alliance Fencing Academy was founded in 2004 by Head Coach Andrey Geva.  Geva is currently the United States’ Olympic Coach for the Women’s Epee Team.  He was the US Women’s Epee Team Coach for the 2016 Olympics as well.

Alliance won the Award for Excellence in Membership in recognition of Alliance’s success; encouraging its fencers to be friendly, good sports while also being tough competitors. Alliance’s classes and training are among the best in the country.  Alliance develops a sense of community among its fencing family through a variety of activities – both at the club and beyond – including team dinners, pool parties, and barbeques.

Each year, Alliance sponsors world class international camps and a mega-fencing camp in cooperation with other top fencing clubs in the United States.  This year’s mega-camp had over 140 fencers from 11 clubs training in preparation for Summer Nationals.  Additionally, Alliance offered multiple introductory fencing camps in both locations over the summer for beginners to learn the sport of fencing.

Alliance Fencing Academy offers classes for children, youth and adults and is open six days a week.  Alliance offers Homeschool and evening classes, birthday parties and Off Campus PE Credit for multiple local school districts.
