Four FFA Members Awarded Farm Credit Scholarships  

AUSTIN, Texas – Four college-bound students were awarded scholarships from Farm Credit Bank of Texas during the 2019 Texas FFA State Convention in Fort Worth on July 18.

The recipients of the rural funding bank’s $2,000 scholarships were Tommy Butler of Perryton FFA, Cheyenne Byrer of Elgin FFA, Jacob D’Agostino of Taylor-Katy FFA and Tanner Myers of Huffman FFA.

All four students have been active in their communities and local FFA chapters and plan to pursue careers in agriculture.

Tommy Butler, a recent Perryton High School graduate, is heading to Tarleton State University this fall to study animal science with a concentration on pre-veterinary medicine. During high school, he was the Top O’ Texas District reporter, chapter president, vice president and treasurer. A Lone Star FFA Degree recipient, he was a class officer and competed in public-speaking contests. Tommy is an avid market goat and market swine exhibitor.

Cheyenne Byrer, a graduate of Elgin High School, will attend Texas A&M University this fall to study agricultural communications and journalism. During high school, she was an Area XII FFA vice president and Elgin FFA secretary. A Lone Star FFA Degree recipient and member of various livestock associations, she also earned several awards in livestock judging, agricultural quiz competitions and photography contests. Cheyenne is a frequent cattle exhibitor at the state and national levels.

Jacob D’Agostino, a James E. Taylor High School graduate, is heading to Texas A&M University this fall to study agricultural engineering. In high school, he was his FFA chapter’s secretary and treasurer. Jacob is a Lone Star FFA Degree recipient and beef proficiency area finalist. He placed in the State FFA chapter quiz in nursery/landscape and holds a state championship title in entomology. Jacob is an avid breeding heifer and market steer exhibitor.

Tanner Myers, a graduate of Hargrave High School (HHS), will study agricultural education at West Texas A&M University this fall. In high school, he was Texas FFA Area III vice president, Huffman FFA vice president, HHS Student Council president and district officer, as well as a member of the HHS Student Advisory Council. A Lone Star FFA Degree recipient, Tanner participated in FFA leadership judging events. He has shown market rabbits and a market pig and is also a beekeeper.

Farm Credit Bank of Texas, a title sponsor of the FFA convention, is a cooperatively owned wholesale bank that finances agriculture and rural America. The 102-year-old bank is part of the nationwide Farm Credit System, the oldest and largest source of rural financing in the United States.
