Katy Police Wednesday charged Rene Martinez, a 35-year-old Harris County resident, with failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, a second-degree felony.
Police received information about Martinez, who it said was a registered sex offender, possibly living within the Katy city limits, but not having registered with police as required by law.
Police performed surveillance and identified the address where Martinez was living, an apartment complex in the 5200 block of Tallow Pine Terrace.
After initially refusing to cooperate with police, Martinez confessed to failing to comply with sex offender registration laws.
Police arrested Martinez, who was transported to the Harris County Jail.
