Northwest Assistance Ministries Has An Immediate Need For Volunteer Drivers For Meals On Wheels

HOUSTON, TX— Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) is in need of additional volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels from its three locations, the main building (Kuykendahl Rd & 1960), Lifepath Church (Barker Cypress & W. Little York), and Windwood Presbyterian Church (249 & Spring Cypress).

For the past 22 years, Meals on Wheels at NAM has delivered hot, well-balanced meals to the doors of seniors and other neighbors who are homebound because of disability or illness. By supporting their nutritional needs, this program helps participants maintain or improve their health, remain independent and stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Volunteer drivers also deliver more than just a nutritious meal. They provide a smiling face and a much needed human connection for seniors and disabled adults in the Northwest Harris County. Volunteer drivers make an enormous difference when they join NAM’s team and become a part of the change in our community.

“We are currently serving 800 meals Monday through Friday across 24 different zip codes and our need for volunteer drivers is greater than ever before,” explained Grace Jackson, Senior Services Director at NAM. “We continue to see a need in our community and we rely on volunteers to deliver these meals to hundreds of people that otherwise would go hungry. Volunteers are truly the lifeline these individuals have and we couldn’t do what we do without them,” Jackson said.

Routes are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to Noon. This opportunity is an easy and effective way for organizations and individuals to become involved in their local community. Groups, companies, retirees, college students, and stay-at-home parents often make ideal candidates for this important job.

Requirements to serve as a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels:

–        Be 18 years of age

–        Have a car

–        Have a valid driver’s license

Youth of all ages may also participate alongside a parent/guardian, making this a fitting opportunity for youth groups, scouts, and parents with young children.

NAM asks that all potential volunteers attend volunteer orientation, so they can better understand their volunteer role within the organization. Volunteer orientations are held the first Wednesday and third Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. at:
