A $75,000 Convention and Tourism Bureau hotel occupancy tax grant application for the 2019 Katy Rice Harvest Festival was approved by the Katy City Council Monday night.
The festival, a local tradition since 1981, is scheduled for Oct. 11-13 in downtown Katy, between 1st Street and 4th Street and Avenue A and Avenue D. The city last year took over the festival sponsorship from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, which declined to continue its sponsorship.
The Katy Rotary Club serves as a cosponsor of the festival with the city.
In other action, the council:
- Cancelled the May 27 council meeting, which falls on Memorial Day.
- Reviewed the FY 2018-19 Second Quarter Investment Report, bank statement and check register through March 31.
- Authorized Mayor Chuck Brawner to sign a street light request agreement with Centerpoint Energy for 14 street lights on Spring Green Boulevard Between S. Firethorne Road and the end of the city limits, near Avalon at Spring Green.
