SUGAR LAND, TX – Rep. Pete Olson hosted the first in a series of human trafficking focus group meetings with local law enforcement officers to discuss options to combat it in the Houston area before the Offshore Technology Conference in May. Olson was joined by Brazoria County Constable Brawner and Fort Bend County Constables Thompson and Beard. During the meeting, they discussed ways that federal and local government can work together to proactively address human trafficking in the Houston area.
“Human trafficking is a horrific form of modern-day slavery that impacts communities around the country, even occurring in our own backyard,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “The I-10 corridor is the number one route for human traffickers in the nation, making it a critical priority that we address this issue head-on. Working together at the state, local and federal level, we can stop these criminals in their tracks and save innocent women and children from becoming victims. I thank the Fort Bend and Brazoria Constables for their leadership on this vital issue.”
