Press Release for Rotary Peace Conference

Rotary International (RI) Districts 5890 and 5910, part of a worldwide Service organization that promotes integrity, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders, today announced they will be sponsoring a Peace Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 8686 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77054 February 9, 2019. The Conference presentations will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM, followed by a reception for the public to visit with the cadre of speakers and guests.

Given a climate of conflict, partisanship, criminal activity and confrontation across local, regional and international arenas, organizers intend to promote the concepts of respect, compromise, reform, and negotiation by highlighting national and international leaders that are paving the future with these virtues. A formidable slate of speakers has been drawn upon to discuss the fight against Human Trafficking, Reformation in Criminal Syndicates, Peacekeeping efforts in former Soviet Republics, Recovery Efforts in Northern Iraq, and the growing Humanitarian footprint in Russia.

Rotary Governor – District 5890, Carmen Cuneo, explained, “We want to showcase to the Houston Community, that while our world faces significant challenges to individual freedoms and human rights, there are numerous efforts out there, by good people, trying to find Peace and demonstrate Fairness to their fellow man. It is our hope that public presentations like this will groom and motivate individuals, groups, organizations, and governments to do likewise within their fiduciary responsibilities.”

John Hathaway, Rotary Governor District 5910, further elaborated, “Rotary International’s Foundation has chosen ‘Peace’ as one of its six areas of focus, for the future. Staging events like this where the public can listen to and interact with such reputable achievers in these fields, is one way we hope to plant new ideas for peace-making efforts in future generations.”
