Katy ISD High Schools Staging Plays and Musicals This Spring

Several Katy Independent School District high schools are staging spring musicals and plays for the public’s enjoyment.

Here’s an overview of upcoming performances.

January 16-19: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The play is being staged at Katy High School, 6331 Highway Blvd.

The play is Shakespeare’s romantic comedy classic, which portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons.

January 18-19: Trestle at Pope Lick Creek

The play is being staged at Morton Ranch High School, 21000 Franz Road.

The play is the story of Dalton Chance, a 15-year-old imprisoned for murder, and the circumstances that brought him to this place.

January 24-26: Legally Blonde, The Musical

The musical is being staged at Mayde Creek High School, 19202 Groeshke Road.

The musical is the story of a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, and discovers how her newfound knowledge can help others.

January 24-26: Les Miserables

The play is being staged at Taylor High School, 20700 Kingsland Blvd.

The play is the story of a French peasant and his desire for redemption after serving 19 years in jail.

January 24-26: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

The play is being staged at Cinco Ranch High School, 23440 Cinco Ranch Blvd.

This new dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ classic, set in the land of Narnia, faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia.

January 31-February 1: Once on This Island

The play is being staged at Tompkins High School, 4400 Falcon Landing Blvd.

The play is the based on the 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy. It is set in the French Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. It focuses on a peasant girl who uses the power of love to bring together people of different social classes.

February 7-8: Chicago, The Musical

The musical is being staged at Paetow High School, 23111 Stockdick School Road.

A musical is based on a 1926 play, Chicago, by Maurine Dallas Watkins, a reporter. The story, inspired by criminals and crimes she covered as a reporter, is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal.”

February 7-8: Beauty and the Beast, The Musical

The musical is being staged at Seven Lakes High School, 9251 Fry Road.

The musical is the popular story of a prince who has been transformed into a beast as punishment for his selfish ways. To transform back into a human, he must learn to love a bright and beautiful woman who he has imprisoned in his castle before it is too late.
