WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week introduced a bill to establish a new position of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space within the Department of Defense. Since being elected to the Senate, Sen. Cruz has served as a leader on space issues and an advocate for American military superiority in space.
“Successfully competing in space requires leaders who are empowered to advocate and allocate the resources they need to secure American leadership in this new domain,” Sen. Cruz said. “My legislation will establish a new Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space, which would ensure the Pentagon adequately prioritizes the issue and that the Senate is able to provide oversight. This legislation also requires that one of the first tasks of the new Assistant Secretary is bringing emerging technologies critical for advancing U.S. national interests into the Department of Defense.
