The regional round of the Texas high football playoffs is this weekend, and two Katy Independent School District teams remain in the thick of things.

North Shore (12-0) vs. Katy (11-1)

The Mustangs face the Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday at NRG Stadium.

This rematch has become a rivalry between the schools. The teams met in the playoffs last season, which Katy won, 31-3, in the quarterfinal round. In 2016, North Shore defeated the Tigers in the regional round.

The teams have already met this season. North Shore’s 35-21 victory, in the August 31 season opener, is the only loss in Katy’s 11-1 record. The Mustangs, meanwhile, enter the game at 12-0. Last week, Katy defeated Jersey Village, 58-14. North Shore defeated Dickinson, 65-21.

The North Shore-Katy winner will play the winner of the Cy Fair-Atascocita game, which is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at NRG Stadium.

Beaumont West Brook (10-2) vs. Tompkins (10-2)

The Bruins meet the Falcons at 6 p.m. Saturday at NRG Stadium.

Tompkins continues to enjoy its first winning and first playoff season in school history. West Brook, meanwhile, is more established, with winning records in five of its last six seasons. Last year’s Bruins team made it to the playoffs, losing in the bi-district round. Last week, Tompkins came from behind to defeat Cy Falls, 31-21. West Brook defeat Strake Jesuit, 54-43.

The West Brook-Tompkins winner will play the winner of the Cypress Creek-Summer Creek game, which is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Rice Stadium.
