As we enter the peak of hurricane season, there is a slight to moderate risk for tropical weather to affect the Texas coast later this week. According to the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center the disorganized tropical moisture currently in the Gulf of Mexico could become a named storm later this week as it nears Texas.
What you need to do:
Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) encourages residents to monitor the forecast daily and prepare for tropical weather later this week.
Get A Kit
- Check your emergency kits at home and at work to ensure you have enough food, water and supplies for 7 to 10 days. Get a full list of Emergency Essentials here.
- Remember to pack special items for pets, children and elderly family members.
Make A Plan
- Review your family’s emergency communication plan.
- Find out if you live in an evacuation area with the interactive Zip-Zone Evacuation Map. There are no evacuation orders at this time.
- Texans with functional and access needs can register for assistance by calling 2-1-1.
Stay Informed
- Check the forecast throughout the week for updates.
- Monitor local media and trusted sources for important information from local officials.
