Pete Olson (TX-22) issued the following statement in support of today’s decision by the Supreme Court to strike down a California law forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to promote abortion in violation of First Amendment protections in the case National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra:
“The First Amendment protects every American’s right to free speech and freedom to practice their faith freely. The Supreme Court was right in determining that the California law was unduly burdensome on free speech and only affected centers opposed to abortion. Government cannot force an entity to promote a message that violates their deeply held moral beliefs. I applaud this decision, which reaffirms our sacred First Amendment rights.”
