Cosponsors bill to implement the $15 billion in rescissions President Trump requested
HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today with Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and David Perdue (R-Ga.) cosponsored a bill to implement the rescissions President Trump has requested with his authority under the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act. This bill would reclaim $15 billion in previously appropriated money that has not been used.
“This is a great first step to reining in wasteful government spending, and I applaud the President for putting this process in motion,” Sen. Cruz said. “A great advantage of a rescissions package is that Democrats are unable to filibuster it, which means that if Republicans stand together we can start cutting back on unnecessary spending. We need to do this, and far more—Congress should take advantage of every opportunity to reduce our national debt, including saving money that doesn’t need to be spent.”
