In his remarks, Sen. Cruz thanked the first responders for rushing into harm’s way as Hurricane Harvey hit, and Secretary Carson and Governor Abbott for their continued leadership.

“Thank you Governor, thank you for the tremendous leadership you’re providing the State of Texas. Thank you for your strong, principled, conservative leadership in Texas,” Sen. Cruz said. “Secretary Carson, welcome to Texas, we are proud to have you here. We’re here today celebrating heroes. We’re here today celebrating the men and women here – police officers, firefighters, EMS – brave heroes who when Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast, they charged into harm’s way. They charged into rushing flood waters.”

Sen. Cruz also praised the spirit of Texas, and reminded those Texans still recovering from the storm that they will rebuild stronger than before.

“We are grateful Secretary Carson is here delivering $4.7 billion to the State of Texas to help rebuild from Harvey,” Sen. Cruz said. “We are grateful that the Texas congressional delegation in the Senate and the House, Republicans and Democrats, stood united in ensuring that the federal government moved to pass three major hurricane relief bills to provide the funding that Secretary Carson is delivering to Texas. And for everyone who was harmed by the storm, Texas will rebuild, we are rebuilding, and we’ll come out of this stronger than before, because of the toughness, the strength, and the character of Texas.”
