Katy City Election Filing Period Underway

By George Slaughter

The May 5 Katy city election filing period is underway, with one seat open and incumbents filing to protect the other two.

The open seat is the at-large seat now held by Steve Pierson, who will be stepping down under term limits.

As of Monday afternoon, Chris Harris, an analyst with the U.S. Department of Justice, has filed to run for the seat. Former Ward B Council Member Larry Gore has announced his intention to file.

In Ward A, Ray Boothe is seeking election in his own right to the seat. He is presently serving out the unexpired term of Chuck Brawner, who resigned that seat last spring to run for mayor. Boothe was appointed to fill the seat until last year’s election, when he was elected to serve out the remainder of the term.

In Ward B, Durran Dowdle is seeking a third term. If reelected, it will be his last term under term limits.

Filing for office began this month. Prospective candidates must file paperwork at the city secretary’s office at City Hall. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The filing deadline is February 16.
