Stockdick family honored during ceremony

Dedication of Katy ISD Stockdick Junior High

January 14, 2018 – Katy Independent School District opens the doors of Stockdick Junior High (SJH) to parents, students, staff and community members during a dedication ceremony of its 15th junior high.  SJH is home of the fierce sabercats where visitors can find a vision of “Leaders & Learners, Today & Tomorrow!”

Adam Henry Stockdick was the first family member who applied and received approval to begin two of the original area schools.  The new SJH is located on a portion of the Stockdick family farm, near the site of one of the original one-room schoolhouses.  Country schools continued to operate for years after Katy ISD was formed in 1919.  The Stockdick School consolidated with Katy ISD in 1931, ending the era of unincorporated schools, but not the involvement of the Stockdick family in education.  From teaching, supporting and running some of the local schools, to several family members serving as trustees for the school board, education was, and continues to be, very important to the Stockdick’s.  After almost 122 years, this family continues to love and nourish the community they call their own.  The historical stories and lessons of this family are ones of strength, will, focus, respect and faith in others which is a true Katy ISD legacy!

During the dedication ceremony, attendees enjoyed a special performance by the SJH Girls’ Choir.  Additionally, a proclamation was read by a representative of Senator Lois Kolkhorst Office and a flag was presented by Representative Mike Schofield.
