Class 6A All-State Football Team

The 2017 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 6A all-state high school football team, based on regular-season performance has been published. Katy area players making the list are as follows:


Running backs: Ean Beek, Katy Taylor


Linemen:  Andrew Coker, Katy Taylor;

  Blake Kuithe, Katy Cinco Ranch

Defensive backs:  Josh Ofili, Katy Cinco Ranch; Ke’shon Rowe, Katy


Seth Smith headed to Under Armour Game

One of the most prestigious high school All-American games, the Under Armour game will be played on Jan. 4 in Orlando.

Katy Tigers kicker, Seth Smith, and Texas A&M commit will see action at the Orlando game. He will suit up for Team Highlight. The game will air on Thu. Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Central on ESPN2.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound kicker and punter this season made 68 of 70 extra points and 12 of 17 field goals, his longest being a 47-yarder. He signed with the Aggies on Dec. 20.


Mayde Creek’s Marcus Stripling receives scholarship offer from Tennessee

Marcus Stripling of Mayde Creek High School has received a scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee. “Extremely blessed to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee,” Stripling posted on social media.

Stripling, a Junior, ranks in the 247Sports Composite as a four-star prospect, the No. 73 player in the 2019 class, and No. 7 strong side defensive end in the country.

The grant opportunity comes from the Volunteers just one day after Stripling announced a top 8 that includes Alabama, Florida, Louisiana State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA.

In nine games as a junior in 2017, the 6-foot-2½, 260-pound Stripling accumulated 33 tackles (17 solo) and 6.0 sacks.
