Sen. Cruz: American Strength and Confidence Are the Best Means for Deterring War and Promoting Peace

‘President Trump’s National Security Strategy represents a course correction in our American priorities that has been direly needed’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s announced National Security Strategy:

“For the past two decades, we have taken our political, economic, and military advantage for granted. This complacency has bred confidence among our adversaries and instilled fear among our allies. President Trump’s National Security Strategy represents a course correction in our American priorities that has been direly needed. I have long contended that border security is national security; that we must call our enemies by their name in order to defeat their threat; and that America should fiercely protect our democratic alliances while advancing cooperative partnerships based on shared interests. This strategy aims to advance U.S. leadership in the world by restoring the idea that American strength and confidence are the best means for deterring war and promoting peace. This document addresses necessary issues to protect our homeland, while laying out a reasoned defense for economic security as the source of confidence both at home and abroad and underwriting our ability to achieve peace through strength. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and the Trump administration to restore American leadership in all key regions of the world and to foster the prosperity and safety of the American people.”
