Santa Claus stopped in Katy to help Mayor Chuck Brawner and his wife Marcy light the Mayor’s 45th annual Christmas Tree Thursday night in front of City Hall, 901 Avenue C.

Before Santa made his appearance, the ceremonies included performances by the Katy Youth Choir and a dance team from Juleigh Holley’s School fod Dance, 27025 Highway Blvd.

For his part, Santa did more than help light the tree, or talk about the meaning of the Christmas holiday before the lighting. One might say that he brought gifts Thursday, between a crowd that might be estimated in the hundreds, and a pleasant evening with mild temperatures and clear skies.

Santa also remained after the ceremonies to visit with local youngsters.

Brawner said Santa would return for the 8th Annual Katy Old-Fashioned Christmas. The free family event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Katy.
