Texas Sailor who died in the USS John S. McCain collision to be buried at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery

On Thursday, September 14th, at 12:00 p.m., the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct a burial service for Mr. John Hoagland III, a United States Navy Active Duty Sailor. Mr. Hoagland enlisted in the Navy on July 7,2015 and achieved the rank of Electronics Technician Second Class.  Mr. Hoagland died Aug. 21, 2017, in the collision aboard the USS John McCain. He graduated in 2015 from Shoemaker High school in Killeen.

According to Mr. Hoagland’s obituary in the Killeen Daily Herald, “In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the John Henry Hoagland III Memorial Scholarship or by calling the Killeen ISD Education Foundation at 254-336-0181.”

Heritage Funeral Home in Harker Heights has coordinated with the Navy Honor Guard to ensure that Mr. Hoagland will receive military honors.

The Central Texas community is encouraged to attend.
