Learn How To Create A Mindful Family Life

Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library will present the program “Creating a Mindful Life for Families” on Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 8100 FM 359 South in Fulshear.
In this workshop, Bill M. Wooten, PhD, will present a basic introduction to the practice and healthful benefits of mindfulness-based stress reduction for families. Those attending the program will learn how to incorporate elements of mindfulness into their parenting role and family life to increase the entire family’s ability to relax, focus, improve cognitive functioning, handle stress more easily, decrease an anxious child’s fears, and promote family happiness. Dr. Wooten will also share tips on fostering a healthy sense of teamwork and reducing sibling squabbles.
“Mindfulness is the awareness that arises when you bring open-hearted, non-judgmental awareness to your experience,” explains Dr. Wooten. “Through mindfulness, we can see clearly, accept, and gain freedom from the suffering brought on by our automatic thoughts and assumptions. We can experience the joy of being fully present in our lives, learn from difficult times, and be open to compassion for ourselves and others.”
Dr. Wooten is the Executive Director of the Office of Business Transformation at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He has a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology and a doctorate in Organizational Psychology. He has more than 40 years of executive leadership experience in healthcare organizations, and has conducted many workshops integrating mindfulness and leadership.
The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library at 281-633-4675 or the library system’s Public Information Office at 281-633-4734.
