Cornyn Calls on Democrats to Stop Stalling on President Trump’s Cabinet Nominees

‘The Senate has now taken a critical next step by ensuring President Trump has some of his top Cabinet officials responsible for our country’s safety and security in place.’

‘Unfortunately Senate Democrats continue to obstruct other well-qualified, non-controversial nominees in a spiteful attempt to deny the President his team.’

‘The election is over, and it’s time for Democrats to drop this divisive strategy for the good of the country.’

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement after the Senate confirmed retired General James Mattis and retired General John Kelly to be Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Homeland Security, respectively:

“The world witnessed a peaceful transition of power today—the hallmark of a democracy that has been a guiding light for the world for more than two hundred years. The Senate has now taken a critical next step by ensuring President Trump has some of his top Cabinet officials responsible for our country’s safety and security in place.”

“Unfortunately Senate Democrats continue to obstruct other well-qualified, non-controversial nominees in a spiteful attempt to deny the President his team. It’s particularly alarming that Democrats are holding up a vote on the President’s nominee to be CIA Director, leaving this crucial post vacant and jeopardizing our national security.”

“When President Obama first took office Republicans took the high road and worked with our counterparts to confirm nearly all of his Cabinet within two weeks. The election is over, and it’s time for Democrats to drop this divisive strategy for the good of the country.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
