Joseph, Katy Tigers Reach Milestone Win

By George Slaughter Katy fans are celebrating Friday’s 52-7 victory over Fort Bend Travis for several reasons. The first is that the win gets Katy off to a good start in the playoffs. The Tigers have now won 10 straight after losing their season opener. A second reason is more sentimental, in that the win marks coach Gary Joseph’s 200th head coaching victory. Taylor Defeats Mayde Creek, 28-21

By George Slaughter Homecoming weekend has come to Taylor High School, and while Friday night’s rain might have gotten everyone wet, it didn’t get in the way of a 28-21 Mustang victory over Mayde Creek at Legacy Stadium. UIL Classifies Paetow Panthers in Class 5A

By George Slaughter The University Interscholastic League, which oversees Texas high school sports, placed Katy’s newest high school sports program in Class 5A this morning as part of its annual reclassification and realignment effort. Paetow High School opened last fall. The Panthers debut their varsity sports program this fall. Chad Simmons Named Taylor Head Football Coach

By George Slaughter The Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees Monday night appointed Chad Simmons as the new head football coach at Taylor High School. Simmons had served on the Cinco Ranch coaching staff since 2000, and as defensive coordinator since 2004. Simmons comes into a good situation at Taylor. Tompkins boys’ capture top prize at the McDonalds Texas Invitational Early season tournaments are a good way for coaches and players to see where their strengths and weaknesses are. The McDonalds Texas Invitational Basketball Tournament held Nov. 16-18 put on by Pasadena ISD featured 48 boys teams and 32 girls teams. The Invitational is played at different Pasadena ISD high school gymnasiums, Phillips Field House, Pearland High School and Pearland Dawson High School.
