By George Slaughter Funeral services have been set for Morton Ranch High School teacher and assistant football coach Stephen Papp, who was killed in an automobile accident over the weekend. By George Slaughter The Katy Independent School District, in an unexpected move, has reassigned football coach and athletics director Lydell Wilson to Paetow High School to serve as a teacher/coach. Wilson coached the Spartans from 2012-17. Last year’s squad finished with a 4-6 record. Head Coach Mike Rabe and his staff have announced their 2018 season match-ups. With Strake Jesuit out of the 19-6A district due to realignment, it allows for an additional out-of-district game. This will be Coach Rabe’s fourth season, and he’s made progress each year with the Rams. The city of Katy wishes them well, and looks forward to watching the Rams work on the gridiron.
Ikenna Nsoedo and Keyonte’ Fiakpui officially signed full Athletic scholarships on February 7, 2018, in the library at Mayde Creek High School. Ikenna, a wide receiver, has committed to Tyler Junior College upon graduation. Keyonte’, the Ram’s starting quarterback, has signed with Trinity Valley Community College. Both young men were awarded 1st Team, All-District for 19-6A. This is a particularly remarkable accomplishment because they had not played at their current positions before this season.
