55Seniors 55+ are invited to join the Maud Marks Library’s Timeless Travelers program for a trip to San Jacinto Day, courtesy of the Friends of Maud Marks Library and Precinct Three Transportation.  Saturday, April 23 at 10 AM, the bus departs from the Maud Marks Library for a fun-filled day at the San Jacinto Monument.

We will spend the entire day at the monument for fun, food, music, and even a re-enactment of the historic 18 minute battle. This program is for senior adults only- no exceptions.  Seating is extremely limited.

Although admission is free, participants are responsible for their own lunch.  Please bring a lunch with you or enough money to buy something to eat there.  The bus will arrive back at the library approximately 6:30 PM.

167467072 taxes, 1040Every Monday and Friday from 10 AM until 2 PM through April 18, AARP will be offering free tax assistance to elderly and low-income individuals at the Maud Marks Branch Library.  The dates for April include Mondays April 4, 11 and 18 and Friday, April 1, 8 and 15.

The Maud Marks Library hosts two book clubs that meet monthly.

 

The Afternoon Book Club meets on the second Thursday of the month, April 14, at 1 PM.  We will be discussing Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.  The Evening Book Club meets on the first Monday of the month, April 4 at 7 PM.  We will be discussing The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  The Just Desserts Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, April 20, at 1 PM.  We will be discussing The Monkey’s Raincoat by Robert Crais.  You are encouraged to bring your favorite dessert to eat while we discuss whether our villains get their just desserts.

 

If you are interested in joining any discussion group, extra copies of the books are available at the library.  There are no dues, and new members are welcome!

At 3 p.m. for four days, the week school is out, we will be showing a different mystery film complete with popcorn. On March 14, a diminutive poultry is convinced the sky is falling. On March 15, Tiana finds her prince in an amphibian. Then on March 16, Baloo helps Mowgli find his way back to human civilization. On March 17, a troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home-world. Finally, on March 18, three children find themselves in a world of fairies and other fantastical creatures. Unfortunately, we cannot print the titles here, but call the library or stop by for a complete list. Popcorn is provided.

MS-Word-2-iconReady to create that perfect resume? On Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m., the Maud Marks Library will be teaching specifically how to write your resume using Microsoft Word. Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required. Seating is extremely limited for these classes. Classes fill up quickly, so don’t delay. Volunteers are needed to help shelve, count patrons, and more.  We will be holding our next volunteer orientation on Thursday, March 3 at 4:30 PM.  Students should be in high school and must be able to commit to two hours a week.  If you would like to help in anyway, please contact Naomi Haught at 281-492-8592.
