By George Slaughter

The Katy girls softball team won the Class 6A girls softball state title Saturday night, defeating Klein Collins, 8-2.

Katy finishes its season with a 37-2 record. The win gives the Lady Tigers their second state title in softball. The first title came in 2015, when coach Kalum Haack’s program defeated Lewisville.

Klein Collins finishes its season with a 38-3 record.

Saturday against Klein Collins, Katy enjoyed a dominant pitching performance from Alyssa LeBlanc, who allowed two runs on only six hits over seven innings. She struck out seven Klein Collins hitters and walked only three.

Of the 104 total pitches LeBlanc threw Saturday, 72 were for strikes.

The Lady Tiger hitters also made their mark, scoring runs in the first, second, third, fourth, and sixth innings.

Centerfielder Tori Whitlock had two hits for Katy, as did LeBlanc. Leftfielder Kailey Wyckoff, catcher Chloe Cobb, and shortstop Chloe Woodward each had a hit for Katy.

Klein Collins scored its two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but by that time the Lady Tigers had established a 7-0 lead and were in command of the game.

The game was played at Red & Charline McCombs Field on the University of Texas campus.

Katy defeated Keller, 1-0, Friday night to earn its place in the title game. Meanwhile, Klein Collins defeated Comal Canyon, 11-1.
