Mr. Tim Gallic, Principal, and the faculty and staff of St. John XXIII College Preparatory, Katy, Texas, are pleased to announce the valedictorian and salutatorians for the 2019 graduating class.
This class of 101 students, amassed more than $7.4 million in scholarships, which amounts to 70% of graduates receiving scholarships; submitted 534 applications to 176 schools, 42 of which are in-state and 134 schools are out-of-state; has four National Hispanic Scholars; has two Commended National Merit Scholars; has one National Merit Finalist; and three graduates will play sports at the university level.
Caitlyn Louise Cano earned the honor of valedictorian and will attend the University of Notre Dame this fall to study chemical engineering. Upon first meeting Cano, you are drawn to her optimism and authenticity. Her bright smile and willingness to help others are a testament to her outstanding character. Interests and activities at St. John XXIII included choir, National Math Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Spanish Society, choir, Girls’ Cross-County Team Captain, track, student government, theatrical productions, and volunteerism at Brookwood Community Center.
With a tie, the honor of salutatorian was awarded to two outstanding students: Abby Faye Hollman and Adley Grace Marsh.
Hollmann will attend the University of Rice to study environmental sciences. Although humble and shy, her inner motor is constantly running at a fast pace to prioritize and problem-solve. At St. John XXIII, she displayed leadership skills and enthusiastic community volunteerism. Throughout her high school career, she eagerly worked with the elderly and disabled at Brookwood Community Center and the Houston Food Bank. Other accomplishments include NASA Aerospace Scholars program, Science Bowl president, and National Merit Semi-Finalist.
With an interest in applied mathematical sciences, Marsh will attend Texas A& M University, College Station. At St. John XXIII, Marsh carried a challenging course load of advanced classes, but made time to tutor fellow students before and after school in math and volunteer in the community. Achievements include membership in National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and swim team, serving as its captain for multiple years. She also served as a Lion Ambassador and Link Crew participant; these two appointments enabled Marsh to be an advocate for the school and assist freshmen as they adjusted to campus.

Established in 2004, St. John XXIII College Preparatory is a premiere Catholic high school with the mission to prepare the hearts and minds of our students to serve God and others. Located on 35 acres, the campus is conveniently located off the Grand Parkway and I-10 near the communities of Houston and Katy, Texas. St. John XXIII offers honors, AP, fine arts, and numerous athletic and extracurricular opportunities. Students are grouped into five “houses” to promote school spirit, fellowship, spirituality, and academic achievement.
