KARE Monthly Meeting on Protecting your Money

On May 8, Katy Area Retired Educators (K.A.R.E.) held their monthly meeting and had an opportunity to learn about “Protecting Your Money” with Yvonne Kershner, Janet Strickland and Casey Herndon from Brazos Valley School Credit Union.  K.A.R.E. was also presented a check from Coffee for a Cause at Legends Coffee House & Café where Fred Green did a Folk Song Sing-a-long. All donations, from patrons, and tips, from the wait staff, were set aside for the K.A.R.E. Scholarship Fund. In addition, K.A.R.E. elected new officers for 2019/2020.  Many thanks to Gerald Young for his service as President for the past two years.

K.A.R.E.’s Officers and Committee Chairs will meet in May to plan and organize their meetings, events and projects for the 2019/2020 school year. Be sure to “Save the Date” for K.A.R.E.’s Hooky Day on August 14. Hooky Day is a reunion with great fellowship for retired school employees to gather and learn about K.A.R.E. Further details to follow.

All public school employees who retired under the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) are welcome to attend and bring a retired educator, friend or neighbor who is not a current member to meetings.

K.A.R.E. represents anyone who has worked in a school district and retired through TRS. This includes all employees from custodian to superintendent. Others interested in supporting the goals of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) are welcome to join as associate members. Reservations are required. Call Lee Ann Nuckles at 832-594-7533.

K.A.R.E. meetings are held at 11:30 a.m. at the Leonard E. Merrell Center, Room 144, located at the West Entrance. For more information about the Katy Area Retired Educators check out its website at http://www.localunits.org/KARE/ .
